This Spring Utah’s chapter of the American Institute of Architects sponsored an urban design competition for two key blocks in Downtown Salt Lake City. An international call for entries brought in more than 300 design entries, looking at how to incorporate new ideas into two of the oldest blocks in downtown SLC. The focus of the competition was on the “spaces between” and how to connect disparate parts of the urban fabric into a more cohesive area.
VODA worked with the very talented architect-in-training Kelly Garfield to craft an entry for the competition. In the end, we didn’t win anything, but had a great time tackling challenging urban issues and creating some great ideas for the city we love:
